the Author
Carol Devenot's
column "Light & Local" appears every other Wednesday in the Honolulu
Advertiser, Island Living, Taste section and
features a recipe and Carol sharing her life and tips. (See recent column
links below.) She also has
appeared on KHON morning show and KITV morning show as well as the Electric
Kitchen and Tasty and Meatless.
Carol was
a Food Science Teacher at Kalaheo High School for over 20 years.She received her undergraduate degree from San Jose State University and
her Master’s Degree from the University of Hawaii.In 1986, she was named one of the top ten Home Economics Teachers of the
Year by the American Home Economics Association.The following year she was chosen 1987 Windward District Teacher of the
Year.
Since
1993, she has worked with Dr. Terry Shintani as a recipe designer and tester of nonfat vegetarian,
chicken, and seafood dishes for his cookbooks.She
has been
featured at his seminars giving cooking demonstrations.
Carol developed recipes for the Dr. Shintani "to go" foods and Dr.
Shintani menu items served at Zippy’s Restaurants.
Carol’s
son and three grandchildren live on the Island of Hawaii.Besides thinking
about her next book, she is an artist; makes jewelry; and loves dancing hula,
working out, and traveling. Her dear tiger cat is named Chibi.
